The Reading Hour

You might have noticed the countdown just to the right counting down to The Reading Hour? The Reading Hour is an event initiated by Love2Read that will be taking place on the 24th of August between 5pm and 6pm. It's set up to encourage parents to read to their children but we think you should read to anyone who'll listen. Read to your friends and family, work colleagues, people on the bus, the family pet. If it has ears it probably wants to hear your dulcet tones. And don't limit it to that one hour! Be encouraged to read whenever the moment spontaneously grabs you. Whip out that book or e-reader and get reading.

Vote for Australia's Favourite Books with Get Reading!

Get Reading! is conducting a nationwide search for our favourite Australian books of all time. You can let them know what your favourites are by visiting their web site here.
Voting for Australia's Favourite Books closes Friday July 26, 2013 and they’ll be announcing our top choices for homegrown books on September 1, coincidentally the same day that they will also announce the annual Get Reading! List for the Top 50 Books You Can’t Put Down for 2013.
As usual we will have a display in the library featuring most of the "Top 50 Books You Can’t Put Down for 2013" available of course for your borrowing. Keep eyes peeled for that!
